Interview with Managing Director Frank Sattler on the new European focus

Techpilot's strong focus on Europe sends a clear signal of trust, transparency and quality in digital procurement processes.

The news came as a surprise: From the third quarter of 2023 onwards, Techpilot will exclusively broker European manufacturing services on its namesake matching platform. According to Managing Director Frank Sattler, the decision was driven by the substantial potential and numerous competitive advantages of the European manufacturing industry. As examples, he cited the excellence of the local workforce, high quality and environmental standards and innovation in open customer-supplier relationships. Why did you decide to open the Techpilot matching platform exclusively to European manufacturing companies from this point forward?

Frank Sattler: Various factors played a role in this decision. First and foremost, we are convinced of the considerable potential and competitive advantages offered by the European manufacturing industry, including its skilled workforce, short transport routes and high-quality, high-precision output.

As Europe's largest platform for the manufacturing industry, we also want to send a strong signal in support of Europe's industrial autonomy and economic strength. By prioritising European suppliers, we aim to support the local industry while strengthening relationships between regional companies.

Furthermore, we are committed to fostering a sustainable and growth-oriented European manufacturing landscape - an innovative and forward-looking hub for the global manufacturing market.

How do you see the current condition of the European manufacturing industry, and how can TECHPILOT help improve the situation?

Frank Sattler: The current condition of the European manufacturing industry is shaped by a combination of opportunities and challenges. Europe has a large pool of skilled workers, advanced technologies as well as a strong tradition of industrial manufacturing. It is crucial that all of these factors are safeguarded.

However, we in Europe are facing increasing global competition and high costs, as well as the need to implement more sustainable and environmentally friendly production practices. The main issue is ensuring clear and fair conditions for both buyers and our manufacturing partners. When working with us, all stakeholders can always expect the highest possible standards.

… but not the least expensive?

Frank Sattler: We do not want our initiative to be misunderstood or our capabilities to be overestimated. Those looking for the cheapest solution will find it elsewhere - but not at Techpilot. We now exclusively offer quality products manufactured in Europe. Our network is transparent, our organisation is perfect, our use is efficient, and our costs are competitive.

European manufacturing companies are renowned for their high-quality standards, precision and reliability. Logistics routes are significantly shorter and more reliable than those in globalised supply chains. Knowledge, proven processes and co-innovations are exchanged more effectively between partners. Efficient communication and faster response times to market changes are also notable. Companies and suppliers are guided by common standards and legal regulations.

I am convinced that, despite the initial cost, this performance promise is worth the investment. Particularly since ecological sustainability has not yet been factored in…

A general question to conclude: What makes the quality of Techpilot's matching process so effective?

Frank Sattler: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools is a pivotal factor. These tools enable us to identify patterns and correlations in the interaction data we collect, providing us with crucial insights. This allows us to more effectively understand the needs and requirements of buyers and use sophisticated algorithms to identify manufacturing companies with the relevant skills and expertise.

Our platform provides our partners with an intuitive, user-friendly interface. Buyers and manufacturing companies benefit from straightforward navigation and clear dashboards displaying all relevant information and communication options in a centralized and organised manner.
