Punching tool
The punching tool is one of the typical industrial needs and is usually manufactured by a Tool construction. Stamping tools consist essentially of a die, a die and the scraper.
What is punching tool?
The punching tool represents the technical basis for the separating method punching and must satisfy high demands on loadability, resilience and dimensional accuracy. With the punching tool, flat parts are made of various materials, for example sheets.
Technical basics for punching
Stamping can be done either manually or using modern CNC technology. During manual punching, the sheet metal to be processed is first placed between the die and the die. The punch is then guided onto the sheet metal with the aid of a hydraulic or lever force with high pressure and cuts it through at the interface between the die and the die. CNC punching machines also operate according to this principle, but the individual method steps carry out largely independently.
Depending on the principle of separation, the manufacturing process is usually divided into the types of shear cutting and wedge cutting. During shear cutting, the pressure surface of the punching tool has a cutting edge which causes cracking and finally leads to tearing of the material. On the other hand, the wedge cutting is characterized by two wedge-shaped cutting edges, which cut the sheet in a certain cutting wedge angle.
Variants for punching tools
Revolver punching machines use tools in which the punch is seated in a sleeve which completely encloses it. It acts as a tool guide and scraper. The plunger presses the tool from above and drives the plunger through the sheet metal. The punch then moves upwards again by springs.
In another variant, the tools are arranged matrix-like in several rows. The tool magazine is not moved in contrast to the turret plate. Each magazine space has its own ram, which can perform the punching process.
Punching tools are often used as secondary composite tools in complex punching systems. When bending tools and cutting tools are used together, the punch-bending method is also used. Band-steel cuts are thereby unwound from a coil and introduced into the hydraulic system, the punched sheets automatically undergo a whole series of process steps. Frequently sharp edges are ground off by trolling.

Fine stamping tools
In comparison with conventional punching tools, fine punching tools are distinguished in particular by the fact that they meet the highest requirements for precision in dimensions and shape. With the aid of fine punching tools it is possible to design the cutting surface of the workpiece to be machined smoothly and without tearing. The associated production method is usually referred to as fine cutting or also as precise cutting.
The production of components with the highest requirements for dimensional accuracy is typical for fine punching tools. These include, for example, gear wheels with modules of 0.2 to 10 mm and small sheet metal thicknesses of 1 to 10 mm. Gear racks or similar machine elements are also produced by fine punching methods due to the high demands. Frequently, the accuracy achieved is so high that no further reworking is required.
The construction of the fine punching tool differs from the conventional punching tool insofar as the tool has a special annular cam plate. This is moved by the outer ram of the press with the upper part, while the cutting punch is actuated by the inner ram in a separate movement. The cutting process is thereby carried out in a tensioned state. In addition to the annular lug, the cutting gap is of particular importance in the fine punching tool. The cutting gap ensures the particularly smooth surface and is defined as a function of the sheet thickness. In principle, triple-acting punching machines are required for the actuation of fine punching tools.
