Wire bending
The wire bending is one of the transforming Production processes and is used in the metalworking industry for the production of wire bending parts for machine and plant construction, the electrical industry and many other industries.
According to the standard DIN 8580, the wire bending of the group of bending deformation is to be attributed. The method can in principle be applied to all metallic wires and is nowadays frequently taken over by automated CNC machines. The product spectrum is diverse and ranges from wire spirals to wire handles and springs to welded wire bending parts.

Wire bending – a technical definition
In principle, the manufacturing process of wire bending is defined as a plastic change in state, which is brought about by an external bending stress. Characteristic is above all the specification of a bending angle in which a part of the wire is bent to another part about a straight axis. In the case of pure bending, only bending stresses occur, tensile and compressive stresses are applied only in the case of curved bending methods.
During bending, a distinction is generally made between the different variants of swivel bending, round bending and bending with straight tool movement. In addition, the methods for producing wire bending parts can be distinguished in two and three-dimensional bends.

While simple wire bending parts such as hooks can be produced by two-dimensional bends, wire springs require, for example, a more complex three-dimensional bending process.

Depending on the material, the wires are processed in different material thicknesses from less than one millimeter to several millimetres.
Which machines are used for wire bending?
The wire bending is a versatile manufacturing process, which comprises different machining steps depending on the desired geometry and the final result. In order to keep the unit costs as low as possible, especially in series production, fully automated 2D and 3D CNC wire bending machines are often used. In addition, mat bending machines, punching and bending machines, wire cutting and cutting machines, spring machines, press and plate shears as well as spot welding machines play a great role in the production of wire bending parts.
Many modern CNC bending machines are often equipped directly with the right tool for fully automatic chamfering, embossing or piercing of the wire.
